On March 13, 2016, the Miami-Dade community gathered at Homestead Sports Complex for the annual Biscayne – Everglades Greenway Ride. Approximately 60 riders from all corners of the county joined in to discover and enjoy the beauty of this on-going trail project. The ride was hosted by Green Mobility Network and the Everglades Bicycle Club, and sponsored by Rails to Trails Conservancy.
The ride involved 3 distances totaling 14, 22 and 42 miles for each group. Before the ride began, an opening ceremony included statements from GMN, EBC and Miami-Dade County District 8 Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava. Commissioner Cava’s district represents the Homestead area and is fervent on building District 8 as the county’s Bicycle District. With her support and the community, South Dade will continue to build its already impressive trail network including South Dade Trail, Black Creek Trail, Old Cutler and now Biscayne – Everglades Greenway.
The Biscayne – Everglades Greenway will be one of the state’s only trails that connects two national parks (Biscayne National Park and Everglades National Park). Many thanks to Everglades Bicycle Club, volunteer ride leaders, and all bicyclists who came out and enjoyed a beautiful day of riding. Special thanks to Rails to Trails Conservancy for supporting this amazing trail opportunity.
