To promote WHEELS and District 8’s growing bicycle district, Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava, WHEELS chair Victor Dover along with a peloton of fellow bicycle advocates came together to tour Miami’s Black Creek Trail. The trail is considered a local gem, however many residents still don’t know much about it.
The trail is located in southwestern Miami-Dade County and runs between Black Point Marina and Larry and Penny Thompson Park. Along the route, it connects to OId Cutler Trail, South Dade Trail and numerous destinations including R. Hardy Matheson Preserve, Southland Mall and Zoo Miami. Future segments of the trail will take the trail all the way to the planned West Kendall District Park! The trail is particularly attractive to cyclists on road bike who are looking for a place to maintain high speeds without the fear of riding close to traffic.
Many thanks to Commissioner Cava and WHEELS, Mack Cycle, Bike 305 and all partners for providing exposure to this very important bike corridor. Expect the Black Creek Trail to be included in the WHEELS program of scheduled group rides coming in November.
