Coming November 11-15, WHEELS will be celebrating South Florida streets, trains, trails and paths. In conjunction with the annual East Coast Greenway summit, WHEELS has set a bold goal of encouraging 10,000 people (1,000 from out of town) to leave the car in the driveway and instead utilize transit, bike, bus and /or foot to commute around Miami.
Collaborating with a broad range of public, private and non-profit partners, WHEELS is mobilizing the South Florida community to participate in a series of programmed group bike rides, trail runs, street parties and more! To further promote the use of alternative modes, WHEELS participants will be treated to free transit passes, food & drink specials, and an assortment of bike friendly swag.
The five-day hub of WHEELS will be South Miami, the only city in South Florida where transit and multi-use trail directly pass through downtown. As the event approaches, expect to see a detailed schedule of group rides and runs that will open to the public, all free! Local bike advocates will serve as ride leaders who will tour participants through some of Miami’s most beautiful bike routes that are not only breathtaking, but also have high connectivity to transit and urban centers. For those new to biking/transit, it will hopefully unveil a whole way of getting to and from one’s daily needs, without the need of a car.
Green Mobility Network is a proud partner of WHEELS, and will be assisting with Bike Valet services and the coordination of some fun group rides!
