A fine day for cycling and community

Gables Bike Day on Miracle Mile

We could not have had better weather or more enthusiastic volunteers than we did for the inaugural Gables Bike Day on Sunday. Public participation was truly gratifying. Cyclists of all ages and descriptions turned out along Miracle Mile and Ponce de Leon Boulevard with their own machines or ones they borrowed from sponsors Deco Bike, Mack Cycle and Fitness, or No Boundaries.

There were many, many walkers enjoying the community event, too, and the Coral Gables police were notably efficient in keeping cars out of the way during the event as well as the setup and cleanup. We owe great thanks for Robert Ruano’s vision in starting the ball rolling, for Coral Gables Rotary president Deborah Swain and husband John’s strong support, and the scores of helpers who came to the project through Rotary, Emerge Miami, Volunteer Match, and the SHAPE Club at Ronald Reagan Senior High School. We have photos you can enjoy at Facebook (share comments, please) and at Flickr. Also a set at Flickr from member Greg Hamra. Yours would be welcome, too.
