Senators rebuff raid on Transportation Enhancements

Posted on September 17, 2009 by admin

The U.S. Senate rejected an effort yesterday to decimate federal funding for bicycle and pedestrian projects.  An amendment by Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma drew 39 votes, with Florida’s Bill Nelson and 58 others voting no.  Florida’s new senator, George LeMieux, was among the 39 who did support giving states an opportunity to opt out of Transportation Enhancement spending.

Several Green Mobility members responded to our alert trying to head off this amendment and another by Coburn. Thanks for your help.  Now, let’s thank Nelson and let LeMieux know that we’re watching.
