Adventuresome riders in South Florida could be forgiven some confusion as they mark up their fall calendars. On October 25 they have a choice of the Homestead Speedway Bicycle Festival, with distances up to 100 miles, and of Ute’s October Blast, out of Fort Lauderdale with distances of 36 or 62 miles.
Both are fine rides for worthy causes. The Everglades Bicycle Club, sponsor at Homestead, has designated the Susan G. Komen fund and the East Coast Greenway as recipients of this year’s proceeds. And Ute’s ride, now in its third year, honors the late Ute Burckhardt by aiding the Florida Bicycle Association’s Share the Road campaign.
